LAND(E)SCAPES

A photography exhibition by Kevin McGarry

Opening Night: Tuesday 29th October, 6:30pm

Opening Hours: Daily from Wednesday 30th October, 10am - 4pm.

“A sucker for punishment and travel” - that's how Kevin McGarry describes himself. Others know him as a fine artist and professional photographer, born and now based in Scotland where he combines 35 years of University teaching and fine art research to create stunning, surreal images of landscapes in some of the world’s most far flung locations.

His burning curiosity for far flung places, people and cultures was kindled whilst at art college, alongside a passion for marathon running. He was recently commissioned to travel with a group of runners to capture them running a marathon in Antarctica and then in the Arctic Circle. This exhibition will showcase images captured on that journey, juxtaposed against similarly striking images captured in Scotland and beyond.

Kevin’s work has been published in The Guardian, The Herald, National Geographic, BBC Scotland, Commonwealth House London, Digital Printmaking, Second Sight Magazine, Runners World, Athletics and Cycling Weekly, and he has won numerous grants and awards including the RSA Grant 2017, Arts Council Award, and a Banff Centre, Alberta research grant. He has exhibited in solo and group shows in UK and Internationally, and has built up an impressive client list and a variety of commissions including several Royal Events, the London Olympics, Glasgow 2014 and the Gold Coast Games for Team Scotland. He has worked on a personal level for well know athletes, including Sir Mo Farah, Sir Chris Hoy, Usain Bolt and Ellie Doyle, and covered major sporting events such as Tour de France and London marathon. Energetic and hard working, he himself has run 49 marathons around the world (with a PB of 2 hrs 49 mins of which he is ludicrously - and rightly - proud!). He has completed research sabbaticals at Emily Carr University, Vancouver and the Banff Centre, Alberta, and more recently a research degree at Glasgow School of Art. He has also worked as a stills photographer on a variety of TV and Film sets.

Kevin currently lives in Oban with his partner Lesley and their long-suffering ginger cat, Pru.
