1st August 2014
Oban Communities Trust established.
13th May 2015
The Trust officially took ownership of the former Rockfield School building in the centre of Oban with the ambition to transform it into a creative cultural hub for the town.
AGM 2017
It was resolved to convert Oban Communities Trust to a Community Benefit Society (CBS) This structure enabled the Trust to raise funds through a Community Share offer to support the capital funding required for the development of the main Rockfield Centre building. Control of the society remains within the community and is managed by the a Board of Directors. The Society transferred its status from a company registered with Companies House into a society registered with the Financial Conduct Authority. For trading purposes Oban Communities Trust is the same entity as has existed since 2014 and remains a charity registered with the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator.
2021
Following a fairly short journey from gaining ownership in May 2015, the Trust sourced funding to complete the capital works (£2.9 million). A small staff team and community volunteers supported the journey, enabling progression of cultural activity on the site by “doing things different”, trying and testing and utilising the huts and outdoor areas while the works on Main building progressed.
Staff were able to move into the offices in the spring of 2021 with the doors opening to the public in the summer of 2021.
