This sewing course is suitable for beginners, starting out on their clothing making journey.

This course will teach you the fundamentals of creating clothing using a sewing machine, as you design and make your very own pair of PJ pants.

This workshop is over four 2 hour sessions on Tuesdays on the following dates:

22nd Nov, 29th Nov, 6th Dec, 13th Dec 2022 at 6.30pm to 8.30pm.

The course will cover:

  • Choosing a suitable fabric

  • Setting up your machine and troubleshooting common problems

  • How to sew perfectly straight and curved seams.

  • How to read and understand a commercial sewing pattern (including the markings and mysterious jargon that accompanies them!).

  • How to take your measurements and select the perfect pattern size for you.

  • How to complete simple alterations to custom fit your pattern.

  • How to cut your fabric, finish seams, insert elastic and hem the item of clothing.

By the end of the course you will have a fantastic pair of trousers that is made to measure and designed by you.

Materials required for participants to bring along to sessions:

  • Sewing machine

  • Your chosen fabric (not required for the first lesson as you will be guided on selecting a suitable material)

If you would like to take part but would have trouble accessing some or all of these materials, please email arts@therockfieldcentre.org.uk before registering.
