Oban Monopoly Board

The aim of this art project is to produce a large Oban Monopoly board that represents the town and local area from the young participants perspective and also explore their issues and experiences. The final piece will be used both as an art exhibit and also a game to play.

The young people will be asked to design the spaces (and also the counters) and artist Paul Gent will transfer their ideas to make a professional looking board game.

Paul Gent is a painter and community artist who recently moved to Oban. He has worked throughout communites for 30 years including in schools, youth clubs, community centres, prisons and refugee camps- both in the UK and internationally.  Paul uses 1930’s travel posters, children’s cartoon, popular board and card game layouts and maps as inspiration for his studio and community work. His work challenges concepts of community, home, diversity and behaviour.

Nowadays, Paul likes to walk his dog around the town with a sketchbook in hand.
