Art workshop

A full day landscape painting workshop with artist Ellis O’Connor.

Learn alternative mark making skills, mixed medium techniques and how to paint the landscape in your own style.

Participants will explore various ways to approach mark making using mixed mediums to create texture, detail and depth. Learn techniques for drawing and painting to bring out your inner style and build up confidence in using various tools and materials from nature.

All materials are provided and are water-based and environmentally friendly. Participants are encouraged to bring some mark making tools found on the beach, in the forest or other outdoor locations, which will be used in the session. For example: twigs, shells, stones, foliage or other interesting shaped and textured objects.

Your tutor Ellis O'Connor holds both an Honour’s and Master’s Degree in Fine Art from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design where she graduated from in 2015. Over the last six years, Ellis has worked as a full-time artist whilst travelling consistently to take part in artist in residence programmes around the world. Most notably, Ellis was one of ten artists selected to take part in the annual Arctic Circle Residency. Taking direct inspiration from the environment, 10 artists were chosen to sail around the Archipelago of Svalbard in the High Arctic. Ellis exhibits her work widely locally and internationally throughout the year as well as tutoring and running art works for public organisations and private clients. Ellis has a deep passion for art and believes it’s one of the most effective tools in exploring connection and using it as an important outlet to navigate through inner emotions.

Ellis appeared on BBC's Mortimer & Whitehouse go fishing as well as BBC Scot and Visit Scotland.
