Get ready for a fun, reflective night in by yourself, performing your own solo theatre show, with your own personal soundtrack.
In ‘Deliverance’, a person arrives at your door with an envelope. Inside is your script - a set of instructions that you will follow for the next 90 minutes.
You’ll dress up, you’ll dance, you’ll pose in the mirror, you'll even receive a phone call from a stranger, but don’t worry, no one will be watching but you.
Described as ‘like a mindfulness exercise crossed with a dressing-up-box game’ (Guardian) ‘Deliverance’ was such a hit during lockdown that Brite Theater & Vanishing Point have revived it for audiences who missed it the first time around.
‘I went from computer-weary to radiant. At the end, I felt taller.'
★★★★ Mark Fisher (The Guardian)
'Every ’performance’ of Deliverance will be different – different protagonists, in different homes, listening to different songs, thinking different thoughts. But at its heart, it is an imaginative exercise in self-knowledge and self-love. '
★★★★ Fergus Morgan (The Stage)
IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR AUDIENCE MEMBERS
The show is LIVE and happens on the day of your booking within a 3 hour timeslot - a more specific time will be emailed to you on the day. It takes about 1.5-2 hrs and should start as soon as you receive your delivery. In other words your booking is a ticket for a specific show at a specific time. Please be ready to receive the delivery at the time we give.
The show is made for you to enjoy in your home, by yourself - please consider that you will want privacy and time to enjoy the show and inform other people in your household if necessary.
You need access to several things within your home, such as your bathroom and your wardrobe during the show. You will need your phone at one point (and that sweet spot that gets the signal).
We invite you to enjoy this event in comfort so you might want a beverage to hand and your reading glasses, just like when you go to the theatre.
The element of surprise is important to us so that we ask that you keep the details of your experience to yourself and the contents of your delivery are not to be sent on to another person. To do so is an infringement on copyright.
Because we need to get everything ready for your delivery, sales for each performance will end at noon on the day. For postal performances sales will end midday 3 days before.
FAQ
Are you coming to my house?
Yes - but only to drop off a delivery - you’re performing this piece. All deliveries will adhere to social distancing guidelines and deliverers will wear masks for your and their protection.
Wait, I’m performing it?
Yes, but don’t worry, we’ll tell you how. Deliverance is a performance about you, by you, for you. No one else is present. You’re gonna be brilliant in it. We mean it, five stars guaranteed.
But who made the show?
Brite Theater (with support from Vanishing Point). The team on Deliverance is made up of creator Kolbrun Bjort Sigfusdottir, associate artists Rob Jones and Alisa Kalynova and consultant Emily Carding.
Can I do it whenever I like?
No, this is a live event. You book for a certain date, we deliver to you within a three hour time slot on the date of your booking (a more specific time is given on the day). Once you’ve received your delivery the performance starts. It is about 90 minutes to two hours in duration. Just like being in the theatre, really. Except you don’t need to put your shoes on.
Can I do it wherever I like?
We made it especially so that you can do it in your home, we don’t recommend doing it anywhere else. This is Scotland, even in summer it gets cold out there!
Hang on, within a three hour time slot I get the delivery, why the open timeframe?
Because we need time to get the delivery to each audience/participant each evening, meaning we might start with you or you might be last to receive your parcel depending on our route.
Can my whole household do it at the same time?
No, one ticket - one performance. This is a show made for one. However, if more than one person in a household has booked in for the same performance we will give you separate time slots for delivery, meaning you’re doing it on the same night but not exactly the same time.
Can’t I just rock up (meaning book last minute)?
No, we need to get everything ready for you so we can deliver. Therefore sales for each performance will end at noon on the day. For postal performances sales will end midday 3 days before.
I’m sick of screens, why should I book for this?
Us too. But fear not. Deliverance is not a zoom, streamed, digital, VR or filmed performance. You will need a phone for a phone call but that is the end of your tech requirements. This is a live theatre performance, so though it may seem experimental it is actually super old school.
What about access?
Because this happens in your own home *most* access requirements should not limit your ability to take part. However, adjustments need to be made for audiences with visual impairments, severe dyslexia and/or hearing loss to best enjoy the performance. Severe immobility might also change your experience of this piece. If this applies to you or if you have any questions regarding access please get in touch with us so that we can accommodate. Special versions have been made for hearing and vision impaired audiences, which will be available on specific dates for each venue.
When you say there is limited ticket availability do you really mean limited?
Yes, this is not a marketing ploy, we honestly have very few tickets per show so please make sure to book to avoid disappointment.
Should I worry about triggers?
The age guideline is 16 plus for this show due to some of the content, but that is not to say there is cause for alarm. We believe in the magic of surprise but if you have something you know will trigger you and you’re worried this performance might set you off, please don’t hesitate to ask.
What exactly am I getting for my money?
A unique live experience, delivered to your door made by award winning theatre makers. And you get to keep what is in your parcel. Plus, you support a small Scottish theatre company. Sweet!

ABOUT BRITE THEATER
Brite Theater is a multi-award winning international interactive theatre company based in Scotland. We are known for bold adaptations and personal/political proclamations. We believe in including the audience in everything that we do. We live for experimentation of form. We try and push ourselves to make work that is not only participatory but audience specific, meaning each night is shaped by you by design. But what does an audience participatory theatre company do when they can’t be in the same space as the audience? We adapt of course.
Deliverance is a step to remove the spectator altogether and make work that is solely participatory. This idea of not-watched performance is derived from a school of thought that all our actions are performative. We’re here to deliver all you need to go on a journey. You make and are the show. We’ll hold your hand throughout, from a safe distance of course. You’re a great performer, did you know that?
Brite Theater are thrilled to have Deliverance, our boldest experiment to date, produced by Vanishing Point, the Scottish visionaries of theatre. Their support is instrumental to our growth as a company and artists, and we can’t thank them enough.
Brite Theater have toured internationally with multi-award winning audience participatory work Richard III (a one-woman show) and Hamlet (an experience) as well as award winning spoken word concert (Can This Be) Home. We’ve performed all over from New York to Prague, Reykjavik to Karachi.
Brite Theater are committed to championing migrant, female and lgbtqi+ theatre makers and stories.
Kolbrun Bjort Sigfusdottir received five star reviews of her Breakfast Play, Kit Kat at the Traverse Festival 2019. Her script and performance of (Can This Be) Home, a personal dissection of the impact of Brexit made with Trad musician of the year nominee Tom Oakes was likewise very well received in Scotland and won the New Territories Award at Prague Fringe 2018
